SOUTH BEND - Reginald D. Carpenter Jr., 49, of 1305 S. 31st St., died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Medical Center of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Carpenter retired from the South Bend Post Office as a custodian. He was born Nov. 1, 1944, in South Bend and was a lifelong local resident. Surviving are three sons, James, Stephen, and Glen, all of South Bend; his parents, Reginald D. and Mildred Carpenter Sr. of South Bend; three sisters, Carolyn Jewell of Indianapolis, Nancy Connelly of St. Louis, Mo., and Janice Melton of Osceola; and two brothers, William of South Bend, and Richard of Chicago.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gospel Center Missionary Church.
