SOUTH BEND Donald Eugene Carpenter,
77, of Ireland Road, died Tuesday in his home. Survivors include
his wife, Betty (Williams); a daughter, Linda Berger
of South Bend; and two sons, David of Plainfield, Ind., and
Douglas of South Bend.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in
Coalbush United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 1 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, and one
hour before services Friday in the church.

Donald E. Carpenter, 77, of Ireland
Rd. South Bend passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 in his home.
Donald was born on January 20, 1924 in Brantford, Ontario Canada,
as the son of John R. and Ethel R. (Weaver) Carpenter. Who
preceded him in death along with his eight siblings.
On October 19, 1947 in South Bend, he
married Betty Williams who survives along with one daughter,
Linda K. (Stephen) Berger of South Bend, two sons, David S.,
(Diana) Carpenter of Plainfield, IN, Douglas M. (Julie) Carpenter
of South Bend, six grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephen Jr. and
Stacie Berger of South Bend, Michael and Danielle Carpenter of
Plainfield, IN, and Blake M. Carpenter of South Bend.
Donald and his brother Reg operated their
own business South Bend Litho Plate Service till his brother
retired, he then went to work at Litho Arts in Mishawaka, where
he retired. Donald graduated from South Bend Central High School
in 1942. He served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the
U.S. Army Air Corps - 317th Troop Carrier. Donald was active in
the Boy Scouts as Scout Master, Troop 110, helping his two sons
to obtain Eagle Scout rank. He was also active in the Optimist
Club, the Craftsmen Club and was a volunteer fire fighter for
Penn South at it's inception. He was a Leader in the 4-H Fair
Horse and Pony. Donald was also a member of the Coalbush United
Methodist Church, Mishawaka.
Friends may call from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. and
6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on today May 31 at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th
Street, Mishawaka. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M.
Friday June 1, at Coalbush United Methodist Church with one hour
of visitation at the church prior to the service. Rev. Jim
Davidson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview
Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
Acting as pallbearers will be Robert Krug,
Kenneth Mumby, David Thomas, Stephen Berger Jr., Michael
Carpenter, Bill Carpenter, and honorary pallbearer Blake Michael
Carpenter. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Coalbush
United Methodist Church 15977 Jackson Rd. Mishawaka, IN 46544.
