MISHAWAKA - Waneta J. Carnes, 86, passed away on
Wednesday, May 28, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center,
Mishawaka. Waneta was born on April 22, 1922, in Mishawaka, as
the daughter of Calvin and Edna (Brenneman) Newcomer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Thomas A.
Carnes and Howard R. Carnes; and a brother, Robert Newcomer.
On February 24, 1946, as Waneta J. Newcomer,
she married Clyde Carnes, who passed away on July 21, 1999.
Surviving Waneta are her son, James M Carnes of Mishawaka; two
grandchildren, Lori (Ryan) Stough of Plymouth, IN and Erin
(Sean) Everett of South Bend; a great-granddaughter, Aliya
Stough; four sisters, Mary E, Garman of Portage, MI, Doris
M. Gorny of Portage, MI, Evelyn L. Ireland of Kill
Devil Hills, NC and Shirley Peffers of Porter, IN; and two
brothers, Arthur S. Newcomer of Mishawaka and James B. Newcomer
of Anderson, IN. Waneta was a life member of First United
Methodist Church in Mishawaka and the Julianna Club at
Wheelabrator. She was a loving mother, sister and friend.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, June
1 from 2 to 6 p.m., in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street,
Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 2 at 11
a.m., with visitation one hour prior, in First United Methodist
Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Ron Bowman officiating. Memorial
contributions may be made in Waneta's name to First United
Methodist Church, 201 E. Third Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
