Richard E. Carlton

Richard E. Carlton, 84, residing on Garden Lane, South Bend, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 6, 2002. He was born January 14, 1918, in South Bend, as the son of Harry William & Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) Carlton, and had lived all his life in South Bend. Richard owned & operated the R. E. Carlton Plumbing & Heating Company from 1948 - 1981.

 

On April 20, 1940 in South Bend he married Louise M. Bassett. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Louise, along with a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice & Jack Troyer of Three Rivers, Mich.; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. & Rebecca Carlton of Osceola; four grandchildren, Richard F. Carlton of Granger, Adam Carlton of Edwardsburg, Mich., Shelli Troyer and David Troyer, both of Three Rivers, Mich.; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Francis of South Bend; and two brothers, Merle Eugene Carlton of Mishawaka, and Harry William Carlton Jr., of South Bend. He was preceded in death by a sister, Emma G. Carlton and a brother Harold L. Carlton who passed away May 10, 1999.

 

Richard was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, South Bend, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

 

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, in Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Donald MacMillan, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Tuesday in Palmer Funeral Home.

Services will be a 1 p.m. Tuesday in Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend, where friends may call one hour before services.
