SOUTH BEND - Shirley A. Carlson, 71, of South Bend, passed
away Saturday evening, August 30th, in Hospice House with her
loving family by her side. She was born on November 19, 1936, in
South Bend, to the late John and Ruth (Miller) Carson.
Shirley was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bob Carson and
Dick Carson. On January 10, 1959, in South Bend, she married the
love of her life, Albert Carlson, who survives. During their 49
years of marriage, her family has grown to include two sons, John
Carlson and his wife, Sue of South Bend, and James Carlson and
his wife, Katie of Pasadena, California, and Shirley's grandson,
Zachary Carlson. Shirley retired in the fall of 1999 from Tyler
Refrigeration where she worked many years as an executive
assistant. Shirley was an avid fan of Brian Boitano. She was one
of many women in the area who belonged to his fan club and
traveled to watch him skate and support the foundations he was
involved with. Shirley enjoyed reading and doing crossword
puzzles. Shirley loved her family and especially would do many
special things for them, even if it meant watching Sponge Bob
Square Pants and calling her grandson just to discuss the episode
with him.
Funeral services for Shirley will be
Thursday, September 4, at 1 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral
Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Friends may visit
with her family from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Burial
will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
