Lorraine N. Carley - of 303 W. Front Street, Buchanan, Mi, died at the West Woods of Niles Nursing Home on Saturday October 14, 2000. Lorraine was born February 20, 1912, in South Bend, IN. On August 26, 1962, she married Virgil Carley, who survives. She was employd as a telephone operator for AT&T in Michigan City, IN, and Grand Beach, MI and as an accountant for a variety of companies in Michigan City, IN and Niles, MI. She served as treasurer of the Berrien County Democratic Party for a number of years, and received a commendation signed by President Nixon, President Ford, President Carter, President Reagan and President Bush for her work as a counselor to troubled children. She was a member of the Spiritual Science Church in Michigan City, IN. Survivors include her husband; Virgil S. Carley of Buchanan, Mi; her sister, Leana G. Stelter of Michigan City, IN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services conducted by Reverend Ruth Novak will be held at 12:00 Noon CDT on Saturday, October 21, 2000, at the Spiritual Science Church, 314 W. Coolspring Ave. in Michigan City, IN. Memorials may be made to the Buchanan Cit Library Building Fund, the Pears Mill Improvement Fund, or the Spirtiual Science Church of Michigan City, IN. Local arrangements were entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, MI.
