SOUTH BEND - George F. Carbiener, 74, of Wilber Street, died at 4:25 p.m. Sunday in Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal. Mr. Carbiener retired in 1984 after 39 years as a truck driver.

He was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Bremen and lived in California for 32 years, returning to South Bend in 1969. On Feb. 18, 1968, in Santa Monica, Calif., he married Esther M. Cortier. She died Nov. 11, 1989. He is survived by two sisters, Velma Cade Hughes of Camarillo, Calif., and Marjorie Richardson of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and three brothers, Del of Bountiful, Utah, John L. of Springfield, Ill., and DeVon of Perris, Calif. He was a member of Moose Lodge 58, American Legion Post 303 and Lakeville Conservation Club. He was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society.
