MISHAWAKA - George Washington Campbell, D.D.S., 87, of Mishawaka,
IN, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away
peacefully with his family at his side on March 10, 2010, in the
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. Born in
Connellsville, PA, a 1940 graduate of Connellsville High, he
played basketball and graduated from Westminster College in 1944.
George was an ensign in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific. In
1950 he graduated Pitt Dental School and was the first oral
surgeon in Beaver County, practicing 35-plus years in Rochester,
PA. At Pitt, he met the beautiful Lois Ruff of Etna, married 1950
for 56-plus years, settling in Beaver Falls, PA, raising three
daughters, building a successful oral surgery practice, retiring
in 1989. George served his beloved Pitt 18 years on the Board of
Trustees, retiring as Trustee Emeritus; 19 years on The Medical
Center of Beaver County board; 12 years as School Director,
becoming the first President of the Blackhawk School Board; and
was a Salvation Army board member. He was a delegate for two
Republican Presidential Conventions, and loved playing golf with
his buddies at the Beaver Valley Country Club, serving a term as
president. George and Lois were blessed with many friends who
stayed in touch as they moved to Naples, FL, and South Bend, IN.
In South Bend, they built another circle of devoted friends.
Thanks to all their friends and to the very special caregivers at
Tanglewood and Senior Care. Dr. Campbell attended many Pitt games
through the years. He attended all games Pitt played at Notre
Dame during his last six years. He took great pride that Pitt was
undefeated in South Bend while he was living in the shadow of the
Golden Dome! HAIL TO PITT! George was preceded in death by his
wife, Lois (Ruff) Campbell; his parents, Dr. Clyde Sparks and
Catherine (Strawn) Campbell; and brother, Clyde Sparks (Pat)
Campbell Jr. He is survived by his sister, Mary Katherine (Kay)
Miller of Connellsville; his loving daughters, Jill (Phil) Foster
of South Bend, IN, Beth (Travis) McFarlin of Memphis, TN, Lynn
(John) Schuholz of Cincinnati, OH; and his grandchildren, George
and Kit Foster, Seth and Meredith McFarlin, Rebekah and Patrick
Schuholz; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome to
join family members at his 10:30 a.m. memorial service on Friday,
March 19th, in First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, PA. In lieu of
