Willa Mae Callaway, 80, formerly of
Hickory Village Apartments, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an
extended illness at 7:50 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, in Hospice
House of St. Joseph County. Ms. Callaway was born on Aug. 23,
1918, in Marianna, Fla., and lived in the Michiana area her
lifetime. She was a graduate of Central High School class of
1937. Ms. Callaway retired from St. Joseph's Regional Medical
Center in South Bend, Ind. in 1985 after many years of service.
She was a member of Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ,
South Bend and she touched many lives through teaching and her
work on the Mothers Board of the church. Ms. Callaway earned her
evangelist license with the Church of God in Christ, Inc. in
1985.
Ms. Callaway had no children and is survived
by nieces and nephews and adopted children who are:
sister-in-law, Mary Barnes of South Bend; niece, Freida
Barnes of South Bend; nephew, Robert Calloway of San Diego,
Calif.; niece Beverly Jackson-Epps of Dallas, Texas;
cousin, Lucy Edwards of Quincy, Fla.; cousin, Hosea Belcher
of Tampa, Fla.; god-daughter, Julie Cole of South
Bend; god-daughter, Amy Mastagh of South Bend; ''adopted''
daughter, Patricia Mastagh of South Bend; ''adopted'' daughter,
Patricia Van Vooren of Bremen, Ind.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6
to 8 p.m. today in Hanley & Sons ''Southwest Chapel'' Funeral
Home located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23 South Bend. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home
with a private burial in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The
family requests in lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions be
made to Hospice House of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court,
South Bend. The Hanley & Sons ''Southwest Chapel'' Funeral
Home handled services and extends heartfelt sympathy to the
family of Ms. Callaway.
