Rev. Charles Callahan CSC, 73, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., formerly of the Holy Cross Mission House, Notre Dame, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cocoa Beach, after suffering a stroke two days previously. HE was born on Dec. 12, 1905 in Paterson, NJ, and entered the noviate of the Congregation of Holy Cross on July 1, 1932. He made his first profession of religious vows on July 2, 1933 and his final profession on Aug. 16, 1936. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 15, 1941.
He preached missions and retreats as a member of the Holy Cross Mission Band from 1941 to 1961 and from 1970 to 1976 he was superior of the Holy Cross Mission House. He was superior of the Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, from 1962 to 1963. He also served as associate director of Province Development for the Indiana Province from 1961 to 1963 and from 1976 to the present. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lida Bradley of Radburn, NJ, and Mrs. Margaret McVeigh of Toms River NJ, and three brothers,Dnald of Daytona Beach, Fla., Robert of Meriden, Conn., and Edward of Paterson.
Funeral mass will be said at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Moreau Seminary. Burial will be in the community Cemetery, Notre Dame. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, where a wake service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
