Philomena Calderone

Philomena Calderone, 97, passed away after an illness at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17, in the Countryside Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka, Ind.
Mrs. Calderone was born on April 22, 1902, in Tresilco Reggio, Calabria, Italy, as the daughter of the late Joseph and Francesca Paiano. She had lived in this area since 1984. In 1920, as Philomena Paiano, she married Rocco Calderone, who preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1962. Mrs. Calderone was also preceded in death by a son, Jerome Calderone on April 11, 1995; and by a grandson, Joseph Calderone.
Mrs. Calderone is survived by her son, Joseph (Betty) Calderone of Mishawaka; 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Angelo Paiano of Mishawaka; and by three sisters in Italy.
Mrs. Calderone was a self- employed clothing tailor and had also worked at Robertson's Department Store as a tailor for many years.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 20, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
