Alexander J. Buzas

April 12, 1926 – November 17, 2004

Alexander J. Buzas Sr., 78, of St. Joseph Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

He was born on April 12, 1926, in South Bend, to Alex and Agnes (Szekendy) Buzas, who preceded him in death along with his sister and brothers. His son, Richard Buzas passed away in April of 2000. On Oct. 7, 1950, Alex married Ramona Skodinski. Surviving Alex is his wife, Ramona; two daughters, Donna (Tom) Popovic of North Liberty, Ind., and Judy (Ron) McMenemy of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Alex J. Buzas Jr. of Niles, Mich., and Major Paul G. (Lisa) Buzas of Puyallup, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Pam (Gary) Hawblitzel, Tommy Popovic, Melissa Buzas, Tony Buzas, Ryan Buzas, Jimmy Buzas, Nick Buzas, Dustin McMenemy, Ian McMenemy, Chelsey McMenemy, Foster Buzas and Griffin Buzas; and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Popovic and McKenna Hawblitzel.

Alex worked for Torrington Allied Stamp Products as a machinist. He was a member of the American Legion Post #50, Eagles #435 and Moose Lodge in Elkhart. Alex was a wood crafter. He enjoyed bowling and working on cars.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 24, from noon until 1 p.m. in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
