Verna M. Butts, 93, of Armour Avenue in Elkhart, IN, passed away at 4:27 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, in Rosewood Terrace, Elkhart, IN. She was born on November 22, 1907, to the late Claud D. and Bertha May (Ipes) Shellenberger in South Bend, IN. Verna had lived in Elkhart since 1968, coming from South Bend.

On May 14, 1924, as Verna M. Shellenberger, she married Ross R. Butts in St. Joseph, MI. He died on February 25, 1994. Two sisters, Ruth Bill and Mary Jane Balint; one brother, Jack Shellenberger; one granddaughter, Janice Puckett Truver; and one grandson, Ross F. Butts, all preceded her in death. Verna is survived by three daughters, Betty M. (husband Albert) Mroczkiewicz of North Liberty, IN; Helen Ruthie (husband Forrest) Puckett of Arlington, TX; Barbara Jean Armour of Elkhart, IN; one son, Robert S. Butts of South Bend, IN; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one brother, Carl (wife Martha) Shellenberger of South Bend, IN.

Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, in KANIEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in the funeral home, with Rev. James Fookes officiating. Entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
