Louis N. Butcher

May 12, 1911-Aug. 27, 1995

SOUTH BEND - Louis Neal Butcher, 84, of Southbrook Drive, died Sunday afternoon in his home of natural causes. Mr. Butcher retired in 1965 as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service.

He was born May 12, 1911, in Culver. On June 10, 1932, in Mishawaka, he married Winnie D. Shanafelt. She survives with a daughter, Judy Corrello of Scotch Plains, N.J.; a son, Larry of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Forest of Canton, Mich., and Richard of Garden City, Mich. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Portage Masonic Lodge 675 where he served as chaplain, Orak Temple of Michigan City, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, South Bend York Rite and the Cathedral of St. James Episcopal Church.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home with Masonic rites. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 5 p.m. today until time of services in the funeral home.
