Rev. Edward Michael Burns CSC, 81, died late Saturday night in the community infirmary at the University of Notre Dame where he had been ill for several years. He had been for several years sacristan of Sacred Heart Church on the campus and his most recent assignment was as chaplain of Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Ind. Formerly he served as chaplain at Tauten, Mass. High Scholl; as a parish priest in New Orleans; and at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. He was born in Derby, Conn.; entered the novitiate in 1904; and was ordained to the priesthood in 1914.

Funeral services will be at 8 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church, with burial in the community cemetery.
