Lorraine J. Burns

SOUTH BEND -- Lorraine J. Burns (nee Paluzzi), 76, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away Thursday evening in Saint Joseph's Medical Center Hospital, South Bend.

 

Lorraine was born July 7, 1927, the beloved first child of Joseph and Josephine Paluzzi at 813 Locust Street in Mishawaka. The oldest of 7 children, Lorraine attended Saint Monica's School and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1945. She then began a career that included graphic and fashion design and she played an integral part in the creation of the South Bend Art Center. Lorraine was an avid tennis player and past winner of the Citywide South Bend Tennis Tournament. She was also an active member of the Michiana Art Society.

She married Charles M. Burns, her loving and cherished husband, on Aug. 13, 1960.

 

All who know Lorraine will forever and always remember her incredibly loving spirit, her graciousness and gratitude, her beauty and her deep kindness, her desire to help everyone, her enormous heart, and her incredible willpower, as well as her intense love for her family including her aunts, uncles, siblings, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews that remain behind to remember her.

 

Survivors include her son, Sean Burns of South Bend; her daughter, Kelly Burns of Lake Station, Ind.; her two brothers, Armand Paluzzi of South Bend and Raymond Paluzzi of Mishawaka; and her two sisters, Olga Foltz of Mishawaka and Kathleen Dewald of Osceola.

 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles M. Burns, and by her loving mother and father, adored sister, Yolanda and cherished brother, Clifford.

 

Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, with a Rosary Service at 3:30 p.m.

 

Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Monica's Catholic Church, 214 W. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka, with interment immediately following at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

 

Donations may be made in her name to The Riley Hospital for Children.
