Frances Josephine McNamara Bradley Burmeister, 88, passed away after a lengthy illness on March 2, 1998, in her son and daughter-in-law's home in Mapleton, Utah. Born the youngest of three children in Chicago, IL, on March 20, 1909, to Sarah (Haggerty) McNamara and Charles D. McNamara. Her siblings died prior to 1908, her father in 1911 and her mother in 1935.
On April 22, 1930, in Chicago, IL she married Fred G. Bradley who preceded her in death on June 18, 1973. In South Bend, IN on October 26, 1985, she married Robert J. Burmeister who also preceded her in death on April 22, 1988.
Also pre-deceasing Frances are two granddaughters, Colette Patrice Bradley (10/08/81) and Janine Frances Geise (12/02/88) and her daughter Mary Catherine (Bradley) Schrader (04/02/97).
She is survived by four of her children, Norman F. Bradley of South Bend, IN, Edward F. Bradley of Mapleton, UT, Janet Geise Owens, Joanne P. Martin, both of Gilbert, AZ, and two stepchildren, Thomas Burmeister of Mishawaka, IN and Carole (Burmeister) Wasoski of South Bend, IN. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren.
In 1996, following a long South Bend residency, Frances relocated to Mapleton and while there joined the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Provo. While in South Bend, she was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral.
Frances was most recently employed by the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese as secretary to the most Reverend Joseph R. Crowley, 1971 thru 1985. She held membership in the BPW, University Club, Elks Club and Progress Club for many years. Wheeler Mortuary of Springville, UT is managing the particulars in Utah.
The Hickey Funeral Homes, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN is providing the local arrangements. Friends may call there from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 6, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, at St. Matthew Cathedral, 1707 Miami St., South Bend, IN followed by entombment at Riverview Cemetery. Those planning to express their sympathy may wish to consider memorials to either St. Matthew Cathedral or the American Cancer Society. Frances is loved very much by her family and friends and will forever be remembered.
