Paul F. Burkus, Jr., 88, residing on
Carrol Street, Buchanan, Mich., formerly of Aberdeen Drive, South
Bend, Ind., passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, in the
Fountainview Place Nursing Home, Buchanan, where he had resided
since December 1998.
Mr. Burkus was born on May 24, 1912, in
South Bend, to the late Paul F. and Elizabeth Burkus, Sr., and
had been a lifelong resident of this area. He retired as a tool
& die maker at Martin Machine Shop following 35 years of
service.
On June 27, 1937, in Argos, Ind., he married
Erma D. Wallace, who survives. He is also survived by two
daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Thomas Hosey of
Three Rivers, Mich., and Bonnie Jo and Harold Love of Fort
Wayne, Ind; two grandchildren, Carmen Sue Romack of
Westfield, Ind., and Charles DePaul Hammons of Fort Wayne;
a great-granddaughter, Alesha Hammons of Fort Wayne; and by two
brothers and their wives, Joe and Esther Burkus, and William and
Lillian Burkus, all of South Bend. Mr. Burkus was a member of
Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, North Liberty Lodge
#266, F. & AM, Avalon Grotto, and Bowlers Country Club.
Services will be held at noon on Saturday,
June 3rd, in Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535
Roosevelt Road. Rev. Charles Ternet, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family will
receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer
Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour
prior to services in the church on Saturday.
