SOUTH BEND - James J. Burkus, 55, of
27th Street, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Medical
Center after an illness. Mr. Burkus was a route salesman for
Frito Lay for 13 years and a salesman for Mitchell Distributing
Co., Lakeville, for four years. He was born Dec. 8, 1938, in
South Bend.
On Sept. 27, 1975, in Goshen, he married
Mary M. Benn Niedbalski. She survives, with a daughter,
Kathleen M. Yute of North Liberty; three stepdaughters,
Marilyn Keen of Walkerton, Nanette Esler and Deanna
Riffle, both of South Bend; two stepsons, Michael
Niedbalski of Bremen and Rick Niedbalski of Mishawaka; 10
grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Rajski of South Bend,
and Frances Smith of Marietta, Ga.; and two brothers, Alex
G. Burkus of Rolling Prairie and William Burkus of South Bend. He
was a Marine Corps veteran.
Memorial services will be at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N.
Main St., Mishawaka, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial
contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or American
Heart Association.

SOUTH BEND - Memorial services for James
J. Burkus, 55, of 27th Street, who died at 4:30 a.m. Friday
in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness, will be at 1
p.m. Saturday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St.,
Mishawaka. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may
be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart
Association.
