Sister Mary Nicolena (Catherine Burkhardt) CSC, 78, died at Saint Mary’s Convent early today after a serious illness. She was born in Westphalia, Germany on Oct. 15, 1885. She came to the United States in 1903 to enter the Sisters of the Holy Cross and received her habit that same year. She made her profession of vows in 1905. During her community life she was stationed in Holy Cross Convent at Notre Dame for 28 years. She also spent several years at St. Mary’s Academy in Austin, Texas, and had been at St. Mary’s Convent since 1934.

A requiem high mass will be offered in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s at 7 a.m. Saturday. Friends may call at the convent parlor.
