Gerald Raymond Burke, 89, of 52615 Lilac Rd., South Bend, Ind., died at 11:50 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 2., at Hospice House, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, from natural causes. Mr. Burke was a printer, who retired from the graphics printing industry as a lynotype operator from Peterson Printing, in 1973. He was a member of Printers Typographical Union Local 128. He was born on June 19, 1907, in Norwood, Mo., to Leroy and Ida Burke, who both preceded him in death, and lived most of his life in this area.
On July 16, 1930, in South Bend, he married Galen Vadis Smith, who preceded him in death on June 16, 1988. Surviving are two sons, Warren and Robert Burke, both of South Bend; four grandsons, Bryan Burke of Elkhart, Ind., Shawn and Darin Burke, both of Nappanee, Ind., and Damon Burke of Wakarusa, Ind.; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Van Hove of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Audrey Burke of Mishawaka, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ricky (Erica Holt) Burke, in March of 1992, and a brother, Leonard Burke.
There will be no services or visitation. Memorials may be made to Hospice House, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend. Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, Mich., is handling arrangements.
