Evelyn V. Buchmann, 77, of Irish Hills Drive, South Bend, died at 9:55 a.m. Thursday May 31 in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was born in Florence, Alabama on May 6, 1924, to Elvin and Blanche (Pilkington) Mayes who preceded her in death.

Evelyn married Ollie Bailey in 1940, he died in 1961. She then married Carl Buchmann in 1963, he died in 1998. Mrs. Buchmann is survived by three daughters, JoAnn (Richard) Smith of Plymouth, Ind., Sandra Gushwa of South Bend, and Marjorie Blume of Florida; a son, Carl James (Margie) Buchmann of South Bend. She was preceded by a daughter, Barbara Blume. Evelyn is also survived by two sisters, Christine Leanza of Cleveland, Ohio, and Dorothy Hopwood of Florence, Ala.; two brothers, Harold Mayes of Syracuse, Ind. and Richard Mayes of Florence, Ala. She was the adored "Grandma Muggy" of eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 2 in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. There will be no funeral services and burial will take place at a later date in Fairview Cemetery.
