South Bend Tribune 10/31/2002

Our Lord called His favorite angel, Agnes, home on Oct. 28, 2002. She was born Agnes Louise Casey in South Bend, Ind., to Lena (Gribbon) and Joseph Casey. She married Richard James Brunner on Sept. 6, 1947, her dearly beloved husband of 55 years. They lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Gulf Shores, Ala., where they spent their retirement years. A simple and gentle, yet elegant woman, Agnes cherished her family beyond words. She was a devoted wife, mother of nine children, grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother of two. A devout Catholic, Agnes delighted in attending various Catholic Church Masses throughout her travels with her husband. Agnes was an avid sports fan, but she loved Notre Dame above all. She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing slot machines, and taking daily walks with her husband.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Joan Casey, Imogene Casey and Mary Alice Casey Resnik. She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Brunner; four daughters, Sandy (Bob) Harrington of Granger, Ind., Becky Cooper (Tim Singer) of Phoenix, Ariz., Laurie Brunner of Orlando, Fla., and Mary "Jody" Brunner of Mishawaka, Ind.; five sons, Richard Jr. of Deltona, Fla., Joseph of South Bend, Charles (Kim) and Larry of Mishawaka, and David of Casselberry, Fla.; a sister, Kathleen Higgins of Mishawaka; and by a brother, Joseph (Sally) Casey of South Bend.

Agnes donated her body to medical science at Indiana University Medical School. Future burial arrangements forthcoming. Memorials/contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
