Michael E. "Mike" Brugh, 54, of Chapman Road, New Carlisle, Ind., passed away following an illness at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in his residence. He was born on Oct. 12, 1950, to Richard D. and Leora (Adams) Brugh in South Bend, Ind., and was a lifelong New Carlisle resident. His mother, Leora Brugh, and his mother-in-law, Phyllis A. Cloyd, both preceded him in death. Mr. Brugh worked for Masonite International in Walkerton, Ind., where he was employed for the last 10 years.
On Sept. 12, 1992, he married Cindy M. Versmesse in New Carlisle. She survives along with his father, Richard D. Brugh of New Carlisle; two daughters, Angela Brugh of Elkhart, Ind., and Catie Sechrist of Elkhart; a son, Adam Brugh of Elkhart; two stepdaughters, Julie (Larry) Brown of New Carlisle and Beth Versmesse of Hamlet, Ind.; a stepson, Eric Versmesse of South Bend; three step-grandchildren, Larry Brown, McKinzie Versmesse and Brenden Skorup; and a brother, Rick (Marlene) Brugh of Minneapolis, Minn.
Mr. Brugh was a member of the Community Christian Church in New Carlisle, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and graduated from New Prairie High School in 1970. He enjoyed drag racing, fishing and boating.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle, with Rev. Dr. Ernest Geist officiating. Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the representatives of American Legion Post 297 of New Carlisle. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 20, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, New Carlisle.
