MISHAWAKA - Charles "Chuck" 80, Bruggeman, of Mishawaka, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Chuck was born March 12, 1929, in Mishawaka, a son of the late Domien and Henrietta (Lootens) Bruggeman. He grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1946. Chuck attended Indiana University at Bloomington. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Chuck married Jean Ann Bordner on May 4, 1957, in St. Bavo Catholic Church. Over the years, the couple made Mishawaka and Osceola their home. Chuck's employment included Uniroyal, CTS, Wheelhorse and Ridge Company. He also assisted at the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home. Chuck was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, a founding member of the Mishawaka Alumni Association, and belonged to American Legion Post #161. Chuck was a member of the BK Club, and was a former member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, puzzle pictures, and is particularly remembered for his love of entertaining others. Chuck's surviving family includes his wife of nearly 52 years, Jean; a daughter, Kathy Troiola of Mishawaka; a son, Gary (Kristen) Bruggeman of Walkerton; four grandchildren, Nick Troiola, Tony Troiola, Kye Bruggeman and Kaylee Jo Bruggeman. Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph. Friends may spend time with Chuck's family on Wednesday from 4:30 pm - 7:30 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Contributions in Chuck's memory may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Mishawaka Alumni Association. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
