Robert Howard "Bob" Brown Jr.,
husband, father, and a partner of the Baker & Daniels law
firm, died on Tuesday, Jan. 30. He was 45 years old. Born in
Terre Haute, Ind., on Jan. 6, 1956, to Judge Robert Howard Brown
and Marie Comoford Brown, Bob received his BA, cum laude,
from Indiana State University in 1978, and graduated cum laude
from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, in 1981,
earning his JD. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1981; U.S.
District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, 1981; U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, 1986; U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, 1984; and the U.S. Supreme
Court, 1997.
After practicing law in Evansville, Ind.,
for 18 years as a partner with the law firm of Kahn, Dees,
Donovan & Kahn, specializing in labor law and health care,
Bob joined the law firm of Baker and Daniels as a partner in
January 1999. His practice focused on health law across a wide
spectrum of clients and issues, representing hospitals,
physicians, and other individual health-care practitioners and
their groups. As a valued member of the Baker & Daniels
health-care team, Bob served as the primary outside counsel for
the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, one of
the firm's most significant clients.
Bob's professional associations included
memberships in the following organizations: Indiana State and
American Bar Associations, American Health Lawyers Association,
Indiana Healthcare and Hospital Attorneys Association.
Bob and his family are members of the parish
of St. Joseph Church. Although he enjoyed the daily challenge of
his profession, his first love was spending time with his wife
Tami and "the boys." He also enjoyed golf and reading.
In addition to his wife, Tamera
"Tami" (Noble) Brown, Bob is survived by his
twin sons, Robert and Patrick, 8; his mother, Marie C. Brown of
Terre Haute, Ind.; a brother, James Brown of Phoenix, Ariz.; and
by his sister, Beverly Fay of Cory, Ind. He was preceded
in death by his father, Judge Robert H. Brown in 1991; and his
sister, Debbie Norvanis in 1998.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.
today, Feb. 1, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland
Road, South Bend, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral
Mass will follow on Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph
Church, located at the corner of Hill and LaSalle streets in
South Bend. The burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at Calvary
Cemetery at 1 p.m. in Terre Haute, and family will receive
friends in Evansville, Ind., Saturday, Feb. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.
(CST) in the Simpson Newburgh Funeral Home.
