Jesse Dave Brownlee, 78, dear
husband, father and grandfather who resided on South Kentucky
Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away following an extended
illness at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, April 28, in Saint Joseph's
Regional Medical Center. On Feb. 9, 1922, in Dublin, Miss., he
was born to the union of the late Jesse Dave, Sr., and Elizabeth
(Walker) Brownlee. He was also preceded in death by a
sister, Lois Simpson; and by a grandchild, Joyce Brownlee.
In 1955, in Marked Tree, Ark., he married
Lottie Thomas. Coming from Marked Tree, they moved to
South Bend 31 years ago. Mr. Brownlee was honorably discharged
from the United States Army in 1946, receiving the World War II
Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater
Ribbon, the E.A.M.E. Theatre Medal, and three bronze service
stars. In 1987 he retired from the Whiteford Leasing Company as a
truck mechanic, and was a member of St. Peter's Lodge #31 Free
& Accepted Masons.
Loving family members who survive include
his wife, Lottie; three daughters, Linda Brownlee, Chynelle
Brownlee and Shafona Brownlee, all of South Bend; two sons, Jesse
and Archie (Brenda) Brownlee, both of South Bend; 20
grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; along with other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Brownlee will be
held at 12 noon on Thursday in Alford's Mortuary. Interment will
follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the
service in Alford's Mortuary, where arrangements have been
entrusted.
