Mr. Herbert Brown, 81, loving
companion and grandfather of South Dundee Street, South Bend,
Ind., passed away following an extended illness at 5:50 p.m. on
Saturday, Feb. 27, at his residence. On Oct. 28, 1917, in Mound
Bayo, Miss., he was born to the union of Timothy and Ophelia (Williams)
Brown, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in
death by two sisters, Northula Washington and Georgia
Brown; a son, Delano Brown; and by a brother. He was honorably
discharged from the United States Army in April 1945. Coming from
Chicago, Ill., in 1970, he moved to South Bend. In 1985 he
retired from Yellow Cab after 14 years of service as a cab
driver. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving companion,
Lucy Bradley of South Bend; a brother, T.W. Brown of
Tampa, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Charles Douglas Brown, Herbert
Brown, Alford Brown, Ursula Brown, Delwin Gladney, Tyron
Gladney, Winford Brown and Anthony Bowers, all of Chicago,
Ill., Delaney "Keith" Gladney of St. Paul, Minn.,
Lydell Gladney of Milwaukee, Wis., and Parnell Gladney of Kansas
City, Mo.
Funeral services will occur at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday, March 3, at the Second Baptist Church. Visitation will
be held one hour prior to services. Alford's Mortuary is in
charge of handling the arrangements.
