MISHAWAKA - Florence DeBroka Brown,
passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, in Saint Joseph Hospital surrounded
by her loving family. She was born in Mishawaka on April 20,
1921, to Leo LeBlanc and Mary Hauteman LeBlanc, and was a 1939
graduate of Mishawaka High School.
On September 28, 1940, she married Andrew A.
DeBroka and from this marriage there are four children.
Mr. DeBroka preceded her in death on September 12, 1960. On June
6, 1964, Florence married David Brown, who survives. Other
survivors are sons, Robert L. (Carl) DeBroka of Mishawaka and
James A. (Charlotte) DeBroka of Mishawaka; daughters, Annette M.
(Gary) Hunter Grooms of South Bend and Andrea F. (Sergio)
DeBroka-Lob, Fairfield, CT. Also surviving are 10
grandchildren, Wendy, Bryan, Cynthia, Krysten, Jill, Amanda,
Adam, Erik, Abbie and Nicolas. A grandson preceded her in death,
Andrew A. DeBroka on April 2, 1999. Eight great-grandchildren
survive, Elyssa, Alexandra, Gabrielle, Mikayla, Ellama, Tristyn,
Erika and Callum. During Florence's lifetime she was employed in
a variety of jobs. Among places she was employed were Robertson's
Department Store, Mishawaka City Hall, St. Joseph County
Engineering Department, and South Bend Parks and Recreation.
During the 60s Florence was manager of the Mishawaka License
Bureau. Florence was active in many organizations. Among the
organizations the KofC Ladies Auxiliary, Mishawaka-Penn Township
Democratic Club, American Business Women's Association, Marine
Corps League, VFW 360 Auxiliary. She was also a past president of
the Daughters of Isabelle. Florence enjoyed golfing, bowling and
was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 25, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the Mishawaka High School Scholarship Fund in remembrance of Andrew DeBroka.
