SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth N. Brown, 58, passed away in Memorial
Hospital on August 5, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. surrounded by her loving
family. Elizabeth was born on May 12, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio,
to the late Mable (Brown) and Tommie Gladney. She was a graduate
of Marcellus High School, a dress-making school in Detroit, MI,
and Szlay's European Tailoring. On February 13, 1973, she married
Larry Brown of South Bend. Preceding her in death were her
parents. Survivors include daughters, Shyreece (Douglas) Pompey,
Michigan, Regina Brown, California, Rachel (Sean) Pritzel, South
Bend; sons, Michael Brown, Elkhart, Larry Brown Jr., South Bend;
sister, Patricia Massie, South Bend; brothers, Horatio (Emma)
Gladney, Georgia, Tommie Gladney Jr., Illinois, Sheldon Gladney,
Michigan; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She leaves
to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, other family members
and friends. Elizabeth was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She loved the Lord, reading her Bible, fishing, quilting,
gardening, poetic writing and sewing. Prior to her illness, she
was a gifted self-employed dressmaker, tailor and alterationist,
and ran a business called "Elizabeth's House of Seams."
Additionally, she also worked at J.C. Penney for several years
where she did specific alterations for the College Football Hall
of Fame and Men's Suits Department. She will be deeply missed,
fondly remembered but never forgotten. Services for Mrs. Brown
will be held Friday, August 13th (wake) at 11:00 a.m. with
HomeGoing Service at 12 noon in Bethlehem Baptist Church, 24393
Fillmore Road, South Bend. Burial will follow funeral services at
Highland Cemetery. Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted
with funeral arrangements.
