SOUTH BEND - Barbara Jean Brown, 58,
of South Bend, Ind., passed away after a lengthy illness on
Friday, Sept. 25, at the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center. Barbara was born in Lake Village, Ark., to the union of
West Brown and Gladys Griffo. Both parents preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Crayton
of Chicago and Gary of South Bend. Barbara worked at Simplicity
in Niles, Mich., as a machine operator before changing her job
status to that of a certified nursing assistant. She worked as a
CNA at several of the nursing homes throughout the South Bend and
Mishawaka area.
Barbara leaves to mourn her passing three
children, Lenise L. (Calvin) Winston, Sheila Marie Brown
and Derrick C. Brown, Sr.; eight grandchildren, Ray Brown, West
Brown, Keith D. Brown-Smith, Lamond L. Brown, Derrick C.
Brown, Jr., Darius Brown, Terriana Brown and Demaris Brown; one
great-grandchild, Lexus S. Smith; six sisters, Rose M. (Billie) Brooks,
Theresa A. Phelps, Darlene Martin and Yolanda Wright,
all of South Bend, Dorothy Smith and Chevon Washington of
Chicago, Ill.; nine brothers, Landers Gakins, Kenneth
Crayton, Gregory Brown and Robert Brown of Chicago, Edward D. Wright,
Jr, Samuel L. Wright, Sr., Dennis L. Wright and Kevin R. Wright,
Sr., all of South Bend, and George Jackson of Washington,
D.C. She also leaves a host of other family members and friends
who are too numerous to mention.
Barbara's home, 537 N. Cleveland, was always
open to anyone who needed a place to stay. She will be greatly
missed. But to those who love her and cherish her memory, she
will always be near.
It was Barbara's request that private
services be held. Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with
arrangements.
