SOUTH BEND - Sophia Lillian Brosmer, 96, residing in South
Bend, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, in
Southfield Village. She was born October 5, 1910, in Pekin, IL,
as the daughter of Theodore and Ella (Veerman) Ubben,
and had lived in South Bend since 1956, coming from Gilman, IL.
On May 2, 1934, in Pekin, IL, as Sophia L.
Ubben, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Brosmer. They
enjoyed 58 years of marriage until his passing on November 6,
1992. A sister, Theola Ubben, and three brothers, Richard, Urvan
and Wilbert Ubben, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Brosmer was
the former owner and operator with her husband of Brosmer's 5
& 10 Variety Store at State Road 23 and Ironwood, South Bend.
She was a longtime member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ
where she sang in the choir for 26 years, and was a member of the
Recycled Teenagers. She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Robert D. and Bev Brosmer of Granger; five
grandchildren, Tracey (Terry) Clark of Fishers, IN, Susan
(Patrick) Barrier of Osceola, Kathy (Dan) Coyer of
Plymouth, Janet (Tom) Guzzo of Culver and Mike (Emily) VanDeVoorde
of Mishawaka. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren, and a
brother, James (Sue) Ubben of Dallas, TX.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June
8, in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 915 North Ironwood
Drive, South Bend. Dr. William Wassner, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger,
IN. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka
Ave., South Bend, and one hour prior to services Friday in the
church. Contributions in memory of Sophia L. Brosmer may be made
to St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
