SOUTH BEND - William C. Brooks, 90, of 222 Altgeld St., died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Brooks suffered smoke inhalation during a fire at his home that occurred after he fell asleep in a chair while smoking. Mr. Brooks retired in 1969 from Bendix Corp. He was born Aug. 8, 1903, in Dallas, and lived in South Bend since 1951, coming from Boston.

On March 10, 1945, in South Bend, he married Jean Beyer. She died April 26, 1988. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and a friend, John Kaps of South Bend. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and Masonic Lodge 294. He was a graduate of Valparaiso University Law School.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call one hour before services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
