SOUTH BEND - Mr. Robert Brooks, 90,
beloved husband and uncle, who resided on West Linden Street,
South Bend, Ind., passed away following an extended illness at
4:35 a.m. on Thurs-day, Sept. 24, at the St. Joseph Care
Center-West. On July 7, 1908, in Ruleville, Miss., he was born to
the union of the late Manson and Lillie (Murray) Brooks.
In Greenwood, Miss., in 1938, he was married
to Frances Turner. Coming from Jackson, Miss., he moved to
South Bend in 1941. Mr. Brooks retired from the State Highway
Department in 1971. He was also employed by the Studebaker
Corporation for 25 years. He leaves to mourn his wife, Frances;
eight nieces, Dorothy Jones, Shirley Davis - Morrell,
Beatrice Davis - Dawson, Virginia Jones and Denise Davis -
Christian, all of South Bend, Bobbie Brooks - Rosenthall
of Memphis, Tenn., Janette Davis - Wigfall of Norcross, Ga., and
Gloria Davis - Bradford of Indianapolis, Ind; seven
nephews, Manson Davis and Anthony Davis, both of South Bend,
Robert Rosenthall of Granger, Miss., Derrick Rosenthall of
Memphis, Tenn., Mitchell Davis of Indianapolis, Ind., Tyrone
Davis of Chicago, Ill., and Dave Davis, Jr., of Glencoe, Mo.; and
by a great-nephew, Ronnie Rosenthall of Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Brooks
was a member of St. Peter's Lodge 32, and was a member of the
Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church since 1941 where he
served as a deacon for the past 17 years.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Monday at
the Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will
follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the
church one hour prior to services. Alford's Mortuary has been
entrusted with arrangements.
