Garnett J. Brooks, formerly of Southbrook Drive, South Bend, Ind., died Sunday, July 14, at St. Joseph's Care Center/West, after a brief illness. Mrs. Brooks was born Jan. 17, 1904, in South Bend and was a lifetime resident of the South Bend area.

In 1929, as Miss Garnett J. DeGraff, she married Donald O. Brooks. Mr. Brooks passed away Nov. 12, 1975. Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker for many years. Her son passed away March 17, 1973.

She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Handy of Dowagiac, Mich., and Gladys Hill of South Bend, Ind.; five grandchildren, Damon Brooks, Denise Birong, Diane Birdsall and Douglas Brooks of South Bend, Ind., Darcell Esser of Seattle, Wash.; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 at Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. funeral services will be at 10 a.m. July 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove with graveside service. Mrs. Brooks was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Alter-rosary society and a former member of St. Matthew Cathedral. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
