Alvin E. Brooks, 91, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of South Bend, died Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Mr. Brooks was born in Ashville, N.C., and was employed at the Studebaker Corp. in South Bend for 35 years. He was also the owner of Brooks Upholstery Shop.

He is survived by his wife Maree to whom he was married to for 64 years; a son Jack and daughter-in-law Julie, of Byhalia, Miss.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and is survived by a brother, Raymond of De Land, Fla. He was a devout member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Highland Cemetery. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation. Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
