SOUTH BEND - Alice Britton, 81, of River Park, South Bend
passed away at 1:15 a.m. Thursday at her daughter's home, where
she had been living since May. Alice and her daughter bartended
at the former Kay's Bar on Mishawaka Avenue for several years.
Alice also owned and operated Grove Street Beauty Shop. She was
born on February 22, 1926, in LaPorte, IN to John and Dora (Linderman)
Brown and was a lifelong area resident.
On October 26, 1941 in La Porte, IN she
married Harvey Britton, who preceded her in death on August 6,
1986. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy L. (John) Davis
of South Bend; her son, Robert L. Britton of Bremen; five
grandchildren, Butch (Cheryl) Benn and Christine Newcomer
both of South Bend, Jodi (James) Davidson, David (Cindy)
Britton and Terry Britton, all of Bremen; 11 great-grandchildren,
Bryan (Angela) Benn of Rochester, Nick Benn and Bobby Newcomer,
both of South Bend, Amy Newcomer of Mishawaka, Stacy (Mack) Schmit,
David (Jessica) Britton, Sara Britton, Terry Allen Britton, Matt
Britton, Nathan Cox and Ashton Davidson, all of
Bremen; five great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Wilbur
Brown of Chula Vista, CA. Her sister, Ida Stout preceded
her in death.
Alice loved to crochet. She was a member of
American Legion Auxiliary, Post 303; and 8/40 St. Joseph Salon
#156. We would like to thank Stephanie Irwin, Katrina Harris and
Pam Kramer from Hospice and Nancy from St. Joseph's Regional
Medical Center for their wonderful care and kindness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend, IN. Rev. Jeff Arthur will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
