MISHAWAKA - Dale C. Brittain, 85, of Mishawaka, passed
away Thursday, April 3, 2008, in his home. Dale was born December
14, 1922, in South Bend, a son of the late Charles and Frances (Blackburn)
Brittain. He grew up in South Bend. Dale proudly served his
country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On December 15, 1945, in Mishawaka, Dale
married Betty Steinhauser and the couple lived in South
Bend for a short time before settling in Mishawaka Dale enjoyed
his employment as a cement mason and plasterer and taught classes
in plastering at Clay High School. He was a member and past
president of Local #101 of the Plasterers and Cement Masons. Dale
was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and former member of
the Eagles. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer. His pastimes included
woodworking, fishing, hunting and canoeing. Dale and Betty loved
traveling. They enjoyed spending time at her father's cottage at
Big Fish Lake near Marcellus, Michigan. Dale's surviving family
includes his wife of 62 years, Betty of Mishawaka; a son, Dennis
D. Brittain of Michigan City; a daughter, Cynthia S. Burkett
of South Bend; and three grandchildren, Lucas, Daniel and Abigail
Burkett. Dale was preceded in death by his three brothers,
Charles Ray Brittain, Jack Brittain and Vern Brittain.
Friends may spend time with Dale's family today (Sunday) from 2 to 5 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scouts / LaSalle Council for Wood Lake Scout Reservation.
