Attack Fatal for Bowler

Homer R. Brinley Collapses at Beacon Bowl

A 53 year old South Bend bowler collapsed and died, apparently of a heart attach, Tuesday night in the Beacon Bowl, 4210 Lincoln Way West.

Dead on arrival in Memorial Hospital shortly before 9 o'clock was Home R. Brinley, of 3403 E. Corby Blvd.

Police were called about 8:40pm to the Beacon Bowl, where Brinley was bowing his team.

Teammates said Brinley completed his turn and returned to the sidelines with the other men when he suddenly complained of pains in his chest, then collapsed.

Gilbert J. DuMont, 624 S. 33rd St., and Howard Goetz, 1414 Chester St., administered artificial respiration until the police ambulance arrived.

Undergoing Treatment

Officers administered oxygen enroute to the hospital but said he did not respond.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital.  Police said Brinley has been undergoing treatment for a heart ailment for several years.

He was born in Goshen on July 1, 1906, and had lived in South Bend 50 years, coming here from Goshen.  On July 7, 1929, in Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church, he married Kathryn Miller, who survives.  Mr. Brinley was employed as a sub-station supervisor for the I & M Electric Co for 35 years.

Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Richard & Robert, both of South Bend; a daughter, Nancy at home; two grandchildren and three brothers, Cecil, Dale & Bill, all of South Bend, and four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Smith, Mrs. Ruth Donelly and Mrs. Maybelle Adams, all of South Bend, and Mrs. Bernice Sasse of Key West FL

Friends may call after 7pm today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home.  Mr. Brinley was a member of Grace EUB Church.
