Walter J. Bridgewater, Sr., 83, of North Edison Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, in Regency Place. He was born on March 22, 1916, in Terre Haute, Ind., and lived in this area since 1941. Mr. Bridgewater retired in 1975 from the Bendix Corporation.

On Dec. 27, 1941, in South Bend, he married Valerie P. "Peggy" Kwitek, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Walter J. (Merry) Bridgewater, Jr., of South Bend; two granddaughters, Holly Bridgewater and Jamie Bridgewater, both of South Bend; and by two sisters, Lucille Gamble of Vicksburg, Ind., and Emma Ramsey of Terre Haute, Ind.

Mr. Bridgewater was a veteran of World War II, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9820, and a member of the American Legion Bendix Post #284.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, Ind. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. Cremation will follow with burial at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2410 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
