GRANGER - Barbara J. Bridge, 76, died Wednesday, December
17, 2008 in her home. She was born April 14, 1932, in Chicago to
Valdimar and Elvira (Larson) Anderson. On October
27, 1951, Barbara married William W. Bridge. They moved to South
Bend in 1954 where they made their home and raised their
children. Bill preceded her in death on April 2, 2000. Also
preceded her were her parents and a sister, Elaine (Anderson) Abrahamson
of Chicago. Barbara retired in 1998 from South Bend Community
School Corp., where she had been a secretary at Eggleston and
LaSalle schools. She was a member of Zion Untied Church of Christ
and volunteer with Hospice. She loved spending time with her
family. She was also a lifetime Cub's fan and rarely missed
watching a game, sometimes skipping school to catch an afternoon
game, especially on lady's day. Surviving is a daughter, Lauren
(Kevin) Balsley of Dallas, TX; two sons, Michael of
Granger and William (Teresa) of Plainfield, IL; six
grandchildren, Daniel (Nicki), Douglas (Evelyn), and Stephen
(Katie) Balsley of Dallas, Billy Bridge of Phoenix, AZ, Kyle
(Autumn) Purcell of Plainfield and Tiffany (Tim) Picco
also of Plainfield; and two great-granddaughters, Hannah and
Haley. She is also survived by her sister's children, Chris,
Gary, Karen, Sandy, Jimmy, Gayle and Dan.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 21, in the HICKEY Funeral Homes, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635, with Pastor David Gerth of Zion United Church of Christ officiating. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park at a later date.
