Rose Ellen Brady, 77, passed away on April 1. She was born on April 5, 1928. She was born and raised in Manhattan, New York, to the late Karoline and Joseph F. Flanagan. While in high school, Rose Ellen started working part time at Lord & Taylors in New York. After high school, she worked for Lord & Taylors full time. It is there that she met her husband, the late John J. Brady. They were married on June 16, 1951. They moved to South Bend in the late 1950s. Along with her parents and husband, Rose Ellen was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Brady. Surviving are five children, John (Linda) Brady, Patricia (Jerry) Van De Putte, Carol Sellers, Thomas (Coleen) Brady, and Barbara (Drew) Danik. She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony's de Padua Church.
Rose Ellen was a very proud New Yorker and of her Irish heritage, and was a devoted fan of Notre Dame. She lived in South Bend and raised her five children alone for many years. She enjoyed seeing her thirteen grandchildren, Patrick, Mike, Ryan, Katie, Corinne, Chris, John, Nick, Jenny, Larry, Matt, Kevin, Susan, and her great granddaughter, Addison. She was the president of the St. Joseph H.S. Mother's Club, active with St. Anthony's School, and an Elk's Club member, and a Christ Child Society member. She loved to knit and crochet and she enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, her great grandchild, and her many nieces and nephews. In her later years, Rose worked at the Martha Shop and then at the Milady Shop. Mom, you will be missed deeply.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Joe Valley Memorial Park.
