SOUTH BEND - Ingeborg M. Bowman, 76, of South Bend,
Indiana, passed away on Tuesday September 23, 2008, in Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, after a courageous
battle with cancer and emphysema. She was born on February 20,
1932, in Dresden, Germany, to the late Georg and Mathilde (Fehr) Hohn.
On September 3, 1955, she married Walter E. Bowman, who preceded
her in death on September 27, 1971. Along with her husband and
parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Klaus. Ingeborg
is survived by her daughter, Elena Bowman of South Bend; her son,
Bruce (Leslie) Bowman of Vermont; a stepson, Tony Bowman of
Germany; and by two grandsons, Gregory Bowman of California and
Douglas Bowman of Vermont. She moved to South Bend in 2001 to
live with her daughter, who cared for her throughout her illness.
She was a parishioner of St. Matthew Cathedral, South Bend.
Ingeborg was a wonderful cook and loved to nurture her family.
She lived a blessed life, loved raising her family and making
sure they had everything they needed. She always tried to
anticipate the needs of others to help them. She was very proud
of her work as a home health aid in Vermont. She also leaves
behind many dear friends all over the world whom she loved
keeping in touch with, and especially her dear friend, Carolyn
Robinson, a devoted and loving caregiver. She also leaves behind
her cat, Coco, who she loved to spoil with treats.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11
a.m. Monday September 29, 2008, in The St. Matthew Cathedral,
where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial
contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, South
Bend or to the charity of the donor's choice. Kaniewski Funeral
Home is handling arrangements.
