Doreen Clarice Bowlin, age 79,
formerly of Bailey Street, South Bend, passed away at 3:20 A.M.
Sunday, December 31, 2000, in the Valleyview Nursing Home,
Elkhart, IN. Doreen was a self-employed upholsterer who owned and
operated Doreen's Interiors. She also worked many years for Sears
& Roebuck. Born August 17, 1921, in South Bend, IN to the
late Oren and Evajo (Bessler) Spillman, she had
lived in South Bend since the early 1980's coming from St. Louis,
MO.
Doreen was married on October 4, 1942, in
South Bend to Max Robert Bowlin, who preceded her in death on
February 6, 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Bowlin
of Dallas, TX, Judy and (Warren) Palmer of Basalt, CO; one
son, Brad Bowlin of Perris, CA; and seven grandchildren. Also
surviving are four sisters, Joan Albaugh of Wisconsin,
June Tucker of Mishawaka, Mary Evelyn Haskin of
Granger, Kay Esther Stroud of Osceola, and two brothers,
William and Jack Spillman, both of South Bend.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday,
January 4, 2001 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave.,
South Bend, IN. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South
Bend. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the
funeral home. Doreen was a member of the Order of Eastern Star
and was Past President of the Business and Professional Women's
Association in the 1970's in St. Louis, MO. Memorial
contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
