Wylan B. Bowers, 87, died from heart
disease on Thursday, Nov. 23, in the Hospice House of St. Joseph
County. She lived on Vistula Road, Mishawaka, Ind., for nearly 50
years, but had been a resident of Tanglewood Trace for the past 3
years. Mrs. Bowers was born Dec. 7, 1912, to Glen and Ethel (Easterday)
Snider of Etna Green, Ind. She attended Manchester College
where she earned her degree in primary education and subsequently
taught in Pierceton, Ind.
On July 3, 1936, she married Walter E.
Bowers of Wakarusa, Ind. After moving to Mishawaka in 1943, she
taught at Twin Branch School, and her husband was a band director
at Mishawaka High School. She was an active member of the First
United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, for over 50 years, sang in
the choir, and participated in many church functions. The Bashor
Children's Home in Goshen, Ind., was another of their particular
interests.
Mrs. Bowers' husband Walter died in 1996.
She is survived by two sons, David A. Bowers and his wife,
Kathryn of St. Louis, Mo., and Douglas E. Bowers and his wife,
Charlotte of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Kristen Marotta
(Frank) and Chad Bowers (Melanie); and one great-granddaughter,
Isabella Marotta, two months old, all of whom reside in Surprise,
Ariz. Also surviving are three sisters and one brother, many
nieces, nephews and loved ones. She was preceded in death by an
older brother.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to
8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910
North Main Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be at 11
a.m.on Thursday, Nov. 30. in the First United Methodist Church,
Mishawaka, with Rev. Lorin Clemenz officiating. Burial is to
follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph
County, Bashor Children's Home, the Alzheimer's Association, or
to a favorite charity. The family greatly appreciates the love
and support given by the caring staff at the Hospice House of St.
Joseph County, who made her stay there so comfortable and
peaceful.
