Walter E. Bowers

Walter E. Bowers, son of Harvey and
Leta Bowers, 82, of 530 W. Tanglewood Lane, Mishawaka died at
Americana Health Care Center at 1:13 a.m. Monday of complications
from Alzhiemers Disease. Mr. Bowers was born Sept. 13, 1913, in
Wakarusa, Ind. He had lived in the Mishawaka area since 1943. He
was a 1931 graduate of Wakarusa High School. He received his
Bachelor Degree of Science in music education from Manchester
College.
He married Wyland Snider on July 3,
1936 in Etna Green, Ind. Mr. Bowers was an active member of the
First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, for over 50 years where
he was a member of the choir and was the carillonneur for a
number of years. Mr. Bower was the Mishawaka High School Band
master from 1943 to 1970. He is survived by his wife and two
sons, David A. Bowers of St. Louis, Mo. and Douglas E. Bowers and
his wife Charlotte of Tucson, Ariz. and two grandchildren,
Kristen of Simi Valley, Calif. and Chad of Phoenix, Ariz. Also
surviving are two sisters: Grace Frederick and Martha Dickey
both of South Bend. He is also survived by many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Berniece Darling,
Vinna Helstern and Elma Harroff and one brother
James.
Memorial contributions can be made to the
Northern Indiana Chapter Alzhiemers Assn., 119 E. Jefferson,
South Bend, Ind. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Wednesday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the First United
Methodist Church, Mishawaka. Rev. Dan Motto will officiate.
Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
