Sibyl Bowers, 80, formerly of Remington Court, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Thursday morning, Feb. 11, at the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Bend, Ind. She was born on Jan. 17, 1919, to the union of Ellis and Mabel Hutchison.
She married Lynn B. Bowers in Mishawaka on Sept. 20, 1929. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1998. She worked at the lunch counter of Judd's Drugs in Elkhart, Ind., during the seventies. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Mothers Club and the Women's Fellowship of the church. She was an active member of Friendly St. Joseph Valley Home Extension.
Sibyl is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Wiley of Granger, Ind., Linda Maynard of Elkhart and Judith Whitney of Stanton, Mich.; four sons, Paul Bowers of Michigan, William Bowers of Silver Lake, Ind., Leroy Bowers of South Bend and Raymond Bowers of Mishawaka; a sister, Lucretia (Fred) Powell of Harrisonburg, Va.; and by 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ. Officiating the service will be Rev. Kevin Gregory. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, the Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ.
