Joseph W. Borowitz, 89, of Marshall, Mich., formerly of Mayflower Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, in the Tender Care Nursing Home, Marshall.

Mr. Borowitz was born on Feb. 8, 1920, in South Bend, to Stanley and Katherine Rose (Schneppen-dall) Borowitz, and was an area resident until July 5, 1999, when he moved to Marshall.

On May 25, 1940, in South Bend, he married Martha I. Ziolkowski, who preceded him in death on March 25, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kate Rotzell; and by four brothers, Ernest, Walter, Harold and Ronald Borowitz. He is survived by two sons, Ronald E. (Judy) Borowitz of Marshall and David G. Borowitz of South Bend; and by a sister, Amanda Hess of South Bend. Mr. Borowitz retired as an assembler for the Bendix Corporation in 1972 after 31 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Lodge #45 F&AM.

Funeral services for Mr. Borowitz will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Rev. David Doane of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, South Bend, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
