Nov. 7, 1848 - Mar. 25, 1940

 

First Illness at Age of 91 Ends in Death

 

Martin Borlik, aged 91, who boasted that he never had a doctor in his long life, died at 4 p.m. Monday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Pinkowski, rural route No. 2, box 58, South Bend, after a week's illness, his first.  He is survived by nine children, 35 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

 

Mr. Borlik was born in Poland, Nov. 7, 1868, and came to South Bend from that country 69 years ago, to continue farming.  The surviving children are, Stephen, John and Frank Borlik, Mrs. Stella Chrobot and Mrs. Helen Grzesk, all of Crumstown, this county; Mrs. Antoinette Mleko, of Lanzing Mich.; Mrs. Martha Izdebski of Ladysmith, Wis.; Mrs. Lottie Waligorska, Mrs. Pinkowski, Mrs. Sophia Witucka and Mrs. Hattie Budzinska, all of South Bend.

 

Friends will be received in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pinkowski.  The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic church, Terre Coupe, this County, with Rev. John Wroblewski, pastor, chanting the requiem high mass.  Interment will be in St. Joseph's Polish cemetery.
