SOUTH BEND - John J. "Buck"
Borich, 66, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:24 a.m.
Saturday, November 15, 2008, in his home. He was cared for by his
loving family and friends throughout his long illness. Buck was
born on July 4, 1942, in Chicago, IL, to John J. "Jay"
Borich Sr. and Genevieve "Jenny" (Oslakovich)
Borich. He moved to South Bend in 1952, coming from Chicago. On
December 20, 1986, in Holy Family Church, he married Theresa K.
"Terry" (Dudek) Zielinski, who survives.
Other survivors include his son, Jason M. (Michelle) Borich of
Buford, GA; one stepdaughter, Leslie B. Zielinski of South Bend,
IN; and was "Poppy" to his grandchildren, Anna Marie,
Genevieve Borich and Jason Matthew Borich; one sister, Cindy
Borich of Osceola, IN; one brother-in-law, Al Hopper of
Granger, IN; sister-in-law, Rosemary (Jeff) Pollard of
Crossville, TN, and their children, Toby (Julie) Zalas,
and son, Nathaniel of South Bend; brothers-in-law, Michael Dudek
and Bill (Sharon) Dudek, and their children, Bill and Shannon Nutting
and Darek Dudek of South Bend. Also surviving are nephews, Jamie
(Leslie) Hopper of Indianapolis, IN, Nick Kapsa of Austin,
TX, Dustin Kapsa of Chicago, IL, and Drew Borich of South Bend,
IN. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, John J.
Borich III; one sister, Bonnie Hopper; and one brother, Dennis
Borich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Buck was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph High School. He attended St. Joseph's College, Rensselaer, IN, and graduated from Indiana University South Bend in 1999. Buck was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the military police. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus Council #5570. He also volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Buck was an avid University of Notre Dame and Chicago White Sox fan. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and bird watching. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bilal Ansari, Ruth Conley and staff of Michiana Hematology Oncology for their loving care and support. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
